Chapter 2: I Need Options.
/"You always want to do things the hard way." Meep says before he shrinks his body to the size of a toy.
Saturn attaches his backpack to the hook of her earring. Meep likes traveling this way because he can be close enough to advise her yet small enough to go unnoticed. Saturn pulls a sweatshirt over her head and uses the hood to hide her face.
She cracks the door open and listens. Other than the soft hum of the fluorescent lights, silence pierces the halls. Slipping out the door she walks down the hall quietly. Reaching a corner she peers around to see three unicorns standing in front of one stairwell exit.
"How should i pass them?" She asks meep.
"I don't know yet." he says. "Better off avoiding them since you don't know if your suppose to bump into them or admire them."
Saturn turns down the other hallway and sees another unicorn making its way down. She stops and pretends to tie her shoes. Meep watches the unicorn pass. Saturn stands back up and quickly walks to the end of the hall and opens the door to the stairwell.
She hears an echo of fast footsteps. They're not from a four legged animal either. These are actual human footsteps, and a lot of them. A voice from the hallway she just left gets louder and louder.
"This is mystic eleven. The seventh floor halls are clear." The voice announces opening the door to the stairwell. Saturn hides in the darkness and as he enters the stairwell he comes face to face with Saturn and freezes.
A voice booms through his ear piece. "Copy that. Remember we're looking for a woman, 5,3, dark red hair. Able to see the horns." Mystic elevens eyes widen and he reaches for his ear piece to respond. But Saturn is far too quick. She swings the back of her left hand up smacking him in his free ear so hard the smack echos down the stairs.
Elevens ear rings and a sharp pain follows the path from his ear into his jaw then his neck. Air enters his eardrum and then an instant migraine pulses the back of his head. Before he can regain his focus Saturn uses her right hand to drive his head down and into the wall. He falls, and she helps softly lower him to the ground.
While checking his pulse she pulls out his ear piece and puts it in her own ear. As she turns out Elevens pockets, for ID or a weapon, she hears a bunch of mystics announcing their locations.
Mystic 5 in the basement.
Mystic 8 on the roof.
Mystic 1 by the main entrance.
Soon she realizes they're trapped.
"What are my options?" She asks meep.
Meep sighs. "I didn't predict human allies."
Saturn senses Meep shutting down. "Don't beat yourself up. How could you have known?"
"I should have known. It's my job to know. "
Saturn finds a taser and a key card, in Eleven's pockets, but no other identification or weapons. "Hmmm. They must want me alive. I wonder why." Saturn pockets the items. "Meep, if you want us to survive I really need options."
"Fire escape on the back of the building is your best escape route. Less of these mystics but I can't determine how many unicorns could be waiting. Take the stairs to one of the lower floors before going out on the fire escape. The fourth and fifth floor will have more cover because of the trees, but the first and second floors are closer to the ground."
"Copy that." She says before pulling herself up and onto the railing and sliding down a level. She slides past a couple of mystics. "Hello fellas." The mystics look at each other and yell.
"Target spotted on the east stairwell between level 6 and 5!" one of them says in the ear piece.
At the end of the railing she hops off and turns to run down the next set of stairs. The two mystics behind her scramble to catch up and in front of her three mystics run up the stairs blocking her path. Saturn jumps up and grabs the bottom bar of the railing above her and uses the bar to swing herself over their heads. She lands behind them and keeps running down the stairs, as she makes it to the fourth floor, a larger group of mystics are running up the next flight of stairs.
"Guess this is our stop." She says, opening the door to the fourth floor. Before she shuts the door she kicks her leg up successfully breaking off the doors handle. Slamming the door closed behind her she hears the click of the door locking. The mystics push on the door but it doesn't budge.
"Hello Again." A familiar voice says behind her.
"Not this guy again." Saturn mutters. She spins around and there are three unicorns walking down the wide hall staring at her. The one in the middle she recognizes from earlier because he still has the delivery man's blood on his face.
"Hello." She says. "Quick question. Why do you want me alive?"
The unicorn yawns and lays down across the floor. "I don't know. Didn't ask." The other unicorns lower their horns, pointing them straight at her.
"Second question..." She says pulling her knives out from behind her back. "Why are you killing people?"
The unicorn starts laughing. "I think that's enough questions for now. Get her and try not to kill her." he pauses and looks at Saturn "but if you do I'm sure the boss would understand." He tells the two unicorns.
The new unicorns are much smaller than the one calling the shots. Saturn looks at them and points her knife at the the one on the left. "Do you guys have names?" Both animals kick the ground before running at her. They cross the hall in seconds, horns aimed at her chest. Damn, they're fast! Saturn dodged the right one but the left one knocks her into the wall. "Okay..." She looks at the one that hit her. "Guess I'll call you Skip and him Jimmy."
Jimmy charges towards her and she catches his horn with her blade. His teeth grow to fangs and he bites at her. She blocks his mouth with her other blade and notices someone's missing.
"Skip's gone." She whispers.
"Behind you." Meep warns.
Jimmy is quickly pushing her backwards while Skip is coming up behind her fast ready to stab her in the back. Saturn digs her feet in the floor then kicks herself off the ground onto the back of Jimmy. Skip reaches them and his horn scrapes across Jimmy's causing a loud sharp noise. Jimmy bucks trying to get Saturn to fall off his back. His thrashing causes him to hit his head against a wall.
She falls off and Jimmy shakes his head trying to stop the stars in his eyes. Meanwhile Skip runs back trying to stab her again. The mystics in her ear are on their way to them, all gathering in the west stairwell.
"You need to finish this up." Meep says.
"Easier said than done." She mutters catching Skip's horn with her long blade and driving the curved one into his back. The unicorn screams loud vibrating the hallway. Saturn slaps her hands over her ears. So loud. Skip's eyes darken and he hits her in the chest with his neck. The wind gets knocked out of her as she flies across the floor hitting a wall. She gets up trying to catch her breath and looks up the see another unicorn rushing towards her.
"Looks like Jimmy's back in the game." She mutters wiping her mouth and seeing blood on her hand. As Jimmy comes upon her she dodges behind skip who is hitting his back against the wall trying to get the curved knife out of his back.
"Here Skip, let me help you." Saturn says pulling the knife out and pushing him in the path of Jimmy. Skip's eyes widen as the other unicorn tries to slow down. Jimmy ends up skidding into Skip his horn stabs him in the chest. Saturn pushes them out of her way and faces the third unicorn. He stands up and looks from her to the other two unicorns.
Saturn looks over at them. One is slowly dying while the other is trying to get his horn free. She pulls the taser out of her pocket and tases Jimmy who falls to the ground with a loud thud. Looking back at the larger unicorn she shrugs her shoulders. "Ohh don't you worry about them Skips just taking a break and Jimmy will be sticking around for a while."
"Terrible joke." Her guardian mutters in her ear.
She laughs and holds her knives up in front of her face preparing for him to attack next."By the way, what should I call you?"
The unicorn stands tall and his teeth sharpen to fangs. "My name is Vernon."
